Berk Ilhan is a New York based product and experience designer who is passionate about creating joyful experiences through design. He is currently responsible for Innovation and Strategy at 10XBeta –an innovation-driven product development company– at New Lab.
Berk can't help but think beyond the conventional boundaries for products and services - often breaking preconceptions during his design process, and modeling system maps to handle the complexities inherent in finding innovative solutions. Previously, Berk developed design concepts for ECCO Design, integrating augmented reality with virtual reality on behalf of global companies in consumer electronics and smart wearables. In his free time, Berk also works with Birsel+Seck on client-facing projects.
His Red Dot Award-winning design concept, earned Berk a full scholarship from the Turkish Exporters' Assembly to pursue his MFA at the School of Visual Arts Products of Design Program in New York. Based on a hypothesis that through design, joy and humor can positively affect most human experiences, Berk conducted a year-long thesis project called Uplift, which addresses cancer patients' quality of life by identifying opportunities that cultivate their joy and happiness, and strengthening the support groups around them.
Berk is an undergraduate alumnus of the METU Department of Industrial Design, Ankara. His portfolio includes an extensive variety of projects from healthcare experiences to modular furniture systems, and virtual reality interfaces to futuristic household appliances. His work has been recognized by various international design competitions such as the iF Design Award, IDEA, Red Dot, and A’ Design Award.
